THE Miami Heat has been informed by the NBA that point guard Mario Chalmers will not be suspended for his role in the incident that led to last week's expulsion from the Rookie Transition Program.

Although a suspension initially was a concern, Chalmers' penalty will be a $20,000 fine, as well as the requirement he repeat the program next year.

The second-round pick out of Kansas was expelled on the eve of the four-day symposium in Rye Brook, N.Y., for an incident involving outside guests at the league hotel.

The scent of marijuana also was noticeable in the room where Chalmers and fellow Kansas product Darrell Arthur were present, with Chalmers last week issuing a statement that he “did not smoke marijuana,” an assertion also made by Arthur, a Grizzlies forward drafted in the first round.

Chalmers has since returned to South Florida, where he has been working out at AmericanAirlines Arena. While the fine could be appealed, the players' union partnership in the rookie program makes it unlikely such action would be supported.

Well I guess the heat team is pretty happy with the league decision of not giving chalmers any type of suspension.

Yea i think this was a good call by Stern, a fine and repeating the program is enough. He's young so its obvious he will make rookie mistakes, the incident was not that serious. Quick question, NBA doesnt drug test right? Why dont they, i kno the NFL does.

I haven't really been posting a whole lot lately, mainly because the boards have been kind of dull to me. This, however, is something that I have been following and it is a relief that Chalmers won't miss any games due to this stupid incident. Hopefully he's learned his lesson.

Selfless service.

The only thing we have to worry about is riles suspending him a couple of games the way he suspended Fatoine Walker and James Posey

Hey check this out, there is this sight that gives you free money to bet on sports games with. They give you ten cents and you try to build your way up, and once you hit twenty dollars you can cash out. Some people have $800 in their accounts right now. I’ve already cashed out 70 dollars. No joke they make their money off of advertisement. Check it out

He won't. He said at the very beginning when the incident first happened he'd go with whatever punishment the league put out and not do anything further.

I think the league backed off the suspension thing because they finally realized they were going crazy over nothing since they didn't have any evidence of any marijuana (no blunts, no bags, no nothing). So in the end they just used the girls in the room as the problem, which definitely is not enough for a suspension during the regular season.

Thats rite Riley did say that he would go with the punishment given and not increase it- i remember now! Well that good because this whole incident had been blown out of proportion in my opinion- sure it was the wrong thing to do but i dont think there needs to be a huge punishment for it!

Great News!!!

Now I hope Chalmers take this bad experience and learn from it. Hopefully it motivates him to work extra hard both on and off the court in an effort to rebuild his somewhat stained reputation.

Thank heavens that Mario was waived from suspension. Lucky for him, but $20,000? It could have been used for Zo's foundation. Well, let's just move on and err no more.
