I see lot's of 'official' threads being made so I decided to make one for everything related to Hip Hop.

Post here any news of upcoming albums, recommend songs/artists/albums, debate who are the best MCs or just discuss the current state of Hip Hop.

I have 1 rule to this thread:

Don't come in here and start speaking about Lil' Wayne as if he is some kind of saviour. The dude is the primary reason why Hip Hop is dying.

I'll start off by mentioning the upcoming release of Raekwon's new album "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part II". (You lot may have heard about it ages ago because it did get announced a few years back...)



The album was apparently DONE in like 2007 or something but according to an interview with Raekwon, he wanted to let people anticipate it so they get it in one big hype as soon as it comes out. He complained that his previous 2 albums were released 'too quietly' and he 'don't want the industry to do that to him again'.

Ghostface is again going to have a big role in this (seeing as he is on the album cover), with other Wu-Tang members GZA and Inspectah Deck (My 2 fave members of the Clan) playing a significant role in the album. The track listing has been released (apparently, it is on wikipedia - who gets credit for all that interview info I got) and it has 24 tracks on it.

Dre produced a couple of the songs on it, with the RZA being the main producer of the album.

The album is due for release in Early Sept 2009.

Thoughts? The album has A LOT of hype and high expectations attached to it due to the fact that "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part I" went down as one of the best solo projects by a Wu-Tang member and a Hip Hop classic (In my opinion). I hope he doesn't disappoint and sticks to similar styled beats and themes he had in Part I.

Wayne is wack, but aside from that, Nobody steps to the Wu. Wayne fell off a century ago. Only time he was hot was when Gillie Da Kid ghostwrite for him. Im looking forward to that OB4CL Pt.2 also...

IMO, Wayne is okay but very overrated.

But anyway, Anybody listen to Slaughterhoue (Joe Budden, Crooked I, Joell Ortiz & Royce Da 5'9) ? Heres some info for those who don't know about the group

These guys are nice, very underrated individually and even as a group. Their album is coming out on the 11th of this month but it was leaked online two-three days ago.

I myself like Rakim, KRS-One, Nas, Wu-Tang, Jeru the Damaja, Lupe and the Army of the Pharaohs just to name a few.

In my opinion I think Lupe can go down as one of Hip Hop's greatest lyricists of all time. Not THE greatest, but definitely up there. You could write a Literature essay on 'Dumb It Down' and the fact that he's been subliminally telling a story of a fictional character throughout his 2 albums, WHILE having the individual songs make sense (and not just sound random) is quite good in my opinion.

Has anyone heard his new song Shining Down? He basically mocks Auto-Tune in it which made me so happy!

EDIT: How could I forget to put Talib and Mos Def there? They are also sick.

All he does is smoke weed and do ****ed up freestyles that dosent mean ****, but all wannabe gangster pretend like it means some real poetic, and act like they know.

I love that part as well, but I don't think he's calling anyone out in particular. He's basically taking the saying "It ain't over 'till the fat lady sings" and incorporated it in the lyrics.

Basically if we Auto-Tune rap, the fat lady sings and its over (Hip Hop dies).

I'm not totally sure though so don't take my word for it lol.

LOL I swear its like he puts words together for the sole reason that they rhyme with each other. They don't make any sense but they rhyme so its ok in 'weezeys' book.
